Day 1, Friday: Departure Day

Departure day from USA to Istanbul.


Day 2, Saturday: Arrive Istanbul, Turkey

Arrive at Istanbul Ataturk Airport, where you are met by name board and transfer to your Hotel. Overnight in Istanbul.

Day 3, Sunday: Istanbul – F/D Old City Tour

Your day begins with a guided tour exploring the ancient city with highlights to include: Blue Mosque of Sultan Ahmet 1 built in 1616 that is famous for unequalled ceramic tiles. You walk across the famous Byzantine Hippodrome where gladiators had fought and chariots had raced. Serpentine Column, Obelisk of Theodosius  and  German Fountain  of  Wilhelm  II  are  the  monuments  decorating  the Hippodrome. Your guide will take you to the Grand Covered Bazaar, the most attractive shopping center and the biggest "souk" in the world with nearly 4000 shops selling antiques, jewellery, gold, carpets, leatherware and souvenir. You will be guided through Topkapi Palace, the Imperial residence of the Ottoman Sultans between 15th-19th centuries. The 6 million square footpalace, the oldest and largest remaining in the world, housed more than 10,000 people and is loaded with extraordinary gold, silver and gem collections, a jeweled throne room and the remains of a 400-roomharem pavilion…(Harem section is not included in the program; if requested extra entrance fee is due) and Hagia (St.) Sophia, one of the greatest marvels of architecture, constructed as a basilica in the 6th century by the Emperor Justinian. Overnight in Istanbul. (B)

Day 4, Monday: Istanbul-Gallipoli & Dardanelles-Canakkale

After breakfast head to Gallipoli. The World War I battlefields of Gallipoli are now a serene site. Visit the Lone Pine Australian Memorial and Chunuk Bair New Zealand MemorialANZAC CoveJohnston's Jolly and Kabatepe Gallipoli. Then you will pass over the Dardanelles by ferry and you will proceed to Canakkale. Overnight in Canakkale. (B,D)


Day 5, Tuesday: Canakkale-Troy & Pergamum - Kusadasi

After breakfast you will drive to Troy. Your guide will show you the immortal city of the legendary Helen of Troy and of the Trojan horse which was destroyed and rebuilt nine times. After the visit you will proceed to Pergamum. The ancient town of Pergamum was one of the most important centers of culture and artsof its time. Your guide will escort first to the Acropolis, and see the Temple of Athena, the library, the Royal Palaces, the Temple of Trojan, the steepest theater of the world, the Temple of Dionysos, the Altar of Zeus which was referred to in the Bible as "Satan's Seat." Pergamum was a great center of scholarship and learning. Anthony took the library with its 200,000 rolls and transferred it to Alexandria as a present for Cleopatra. Then you visit Asclepion, an amazing ancient medical center. The ruins here are so complete that walking among them one can relive the methods employed in this health center, from sacrifice to psychodrama… Travel along the Aegean coast to Kusadasi and overnight in Kusadasi. (B,D)

Day 6, Wednesday: Kusadasi-Ephesus-Kusadasi

After breakfast, you head for nearby Efes (Ephesus), where you spend a busy day visiting the spectacular ruins of Ephesus, including the Marble Street, the largest ancient theater in the world, recently excavated monuments, the temple of Hadrian, the Celsus Library and hillside palaces. Then you will visit the House of Virgin Mary. Mother Mary, accompanied by John the Apostle, came to Ephesus at the end of her life. In 1967, Pope Paul VI declared the site authentic and each year a traditional service is held for the pilgrims. Next visit is to the ruins of the Temple of Artemis, which was once one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. Overnight in Kusadasi. (B,D)

Day 7, Thursday: Kusadasi – Priene-Miletus-Dydima Tour – Bodrum

After breakfast you will drive to Priene, the first planned city of the ancient world. Visit the theater, the Temple of Athena, the prytaneion, the agora, and the Altar of Zeus and Cybele. Proceed to Miletus, one of the principal Ionian cities and home of Thales. Visit the theater, the Byzantine Fortress, the delphinium, the nymphaeum, the bouleterion, the Faustina Baths. Then, continue to Dydima and visit the Temple of Apollo. After the tour transfer to Bafa. Overnight in Bafa. (B,D)

Day 8, Friday: Lake Bafa and Heraklia-Bodrum

Heraklia is ringed by mountains and was one of the refuge centers for Christian monks during the Arab invasions of the 8th century which explains the many ruined churches and monasteries. We will see a Byzantine castle and the city's necropolis. Much of the fun in visiting this area is observing Turkish farming life. You can see the beehives in the fields, buy the local honey and enjoy this tourist-free zone. Proceed to Bodrum and overnight in Bodrum. (B,D)

Day 9, Saturday: F/D Bodrum Tour

Visit St. Peter's Castle, including Underwater Archeology Museum. Castle was built by the Knights of St John in 1402 to dominate the harbour and it is one of the last and finest examples of Crusader architecture in the east. Then you will visit Halicarnassos Mausoleum which used to be one of the Seven Wonders of the ancient World. Next stop will be the ancient theater of Halicarnassos, dated back to the 4th century BC with 5.000 capacity. You will also visit Windmills and Myndos Gate. Overnight in Bodrum. (B,D)

Day 10, Sunday: Bodrum-Istanbul

After breakfast transfer to the airport for the flight to Istanbul.Enjoy your free afternoon in this beautiful city. Overnight in Istanbul. (B)

Day 11, Monday: Istanbul Departure

After breakfast transfer to the airport for your departure flight. (B)
